HOW TO PACK FOR YOUR GUIDED HUT SKIING TOUR
Below are pictures of the equipment necessary to safely and efficiently enjoy a multi-day guided hut skiing trip. You can reference the Hut Ski Equipment Checklist for a list of the items recommended. We recommend packing relatively light and not bringing much extra stuff with the goal of keeping a light pack. If you are in need of any of the equipment listed, we recommend contacting our colleagues/outfitters at the Elephants Perch (208)726-3497 or Backwoods Mountain Sports (208)726-8818, both located in Ketchum, ID. Let them know you are ski touring with Sun Valley Trekking and they will outfit you with the necessary equipment and extend a discount on the rentals. The pictures of how to dress below show our preferred layering system for typical mid-winter Idaho weather. Ski touring (unlike mechanized and downhill skiing) is a highly aerobic activity that generates a lot of body heat. We recommend you dress in light layers that can be easily added or taken away, depending on the temperature and your energy output, to provide good climate control. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call or e-mail us.
